HeART & Soul is the Winter Park Library’s celebration of Black Culture in all its dimensions. Music. Spoken Word. Dance. Art. WPL pays homage to culture inspired by Africa across the Diaspora.

This year, we invite you to experience The Harlem Renaissance. Travel along 8 stations as you:

  1. "See" yourself in the fashion style of Josephine Baker, Duke Ellington, or Bessie Smith.
  2. Drop into a mini-documentary to watch film highlights of Harlem Renaissance figures and find out what they contributed to the era.
  3. View an exhibit of Harlem Renaissance clothing and accessories.
  4.  Lose yourself in the visual works of artists whose works capture the soul and innovations of the movement like Augusta Savage, Jacob Lawrence, and Archibald Motley.
  5. Engage in an interactive installation created from fragments of poems and key thoughts of leading writers including Alain Locke, Langston Hughes, and others.
  6. Looking to add to your art collection? Check out the curated works of contemporary artists who will exhibit their works that are available for sale.
  7. Step back in time as a live trio spreads the ambiance of Harlem's jazz clubs.
  8. Experience a visual guide through the era with a visual overview of the Harlem Renaissance that tells of the era's social, political, and artistic significance.

Hear literature of Harlem Renaissance spoken by local readers and visit the Soul-Food food truck for a taste of culinary traditions. Partnership with OpenScene Orlando

This project is funded in part by United Arts of Central Florida, your local agency for the arts.
